To Live, Love, & Lead on purpose//St. Augustine Wedding Photographer

Do you even remember your vows? I will be the first one to admit, I actually have no idea what I said to Ryland on our wedding day to make him marry me, but whatever I said worked! We don’t even have a video to look back to and watch—just the feelings in our hearts for each other and the knowledge of a general promise: I will be with you til the end of time. But it makes me wonder….what else did I promise him and how am I currently measuring up to those promises? Am I making plans to achieve those promises for our future as well?

We recently made our weekly trip to the redbox at Winn Dixie (I just like to point out that it was at a Winn Dixie since there is not a Winn Dixie even 100 miles away from me now). Anyway, we scrolled through all the trashy movies and disappointing chick flicks we had rented last week, to find “Courageous.” We felt like being brave and having an adventure so, we popped in our debit card and the red case came out. A few hours later, Ryland and I were snuggled on the couch with tears running down our faces. It was a very touching movie but let’s face it, Ryland and I cry at every movie—The Little Mermaid, Marley and Me, etc. Courageous had such an amazing message, focusing on the importance of men in families; how christian men can rise above to be honorable husbands and devoted fathers in a society that says they are no longer needed or worthwhile. the climax of the movie was a wedding-like event in which several noble men make a resolution to be fearless leaders for their families; to be courageous.

During the end credits, I felt so inspired by watching these men stand up for their families, promising not to just let life happen—but to love and to lead on purpose. The next day, I scurried to Barnes and Noble (for 93492834 time, I pretty much lived there) and invested in “The Resolution for Men” and “The Resolution for Women;” books based off of the resolution made by the men of “courageous.” I feel that reading these books while i am pregnant is such a wonderful way to prepare to be a mom and dad. While most pregnant ladies flock to books about how to dull the pain of child-birth, I just ignore the reality of that anguish and head for books on the fun part: parenting! haha. (To be announced at a later date: which hurts more: labor or parenting???) As a wife and a mother, i want to resolve to live, love, and lead on purpose so that I can serve my god, my husband, and my children the best I can.

Here is the resolution for women. (I bolded the ones that I feel I need to pray about and ask god for the strength to perform better). If you feel called to this noble resolution, send me a message or comment below so that we can be accountability to one another! And if you get a chance, get a copy of this book—I am only on chapter two and I can’t wait to read this book again when I finish it!

1. I do solemnly resolve to embrace my current season of life and will maximize my time in it. I will resist the urge to hurry through or circumvent any portion of my journey but will live in a spirit of contentment.

2. I will champion god’s model for womanhood in the face of a postfeminist culture. i will teach it to my daughters and encourage its support by my sons.

3. I will accept and celebrate my uniqueness, and will esteem and encourage the distinctions i admire in others.

4. I will live as a woman answerable to god and faithfully committed to his word.

5. i will seek to devote the best of myself, my time, and my talents to the primary roles the lord has entrusted to me in this phase of my life.

6. i will be a woman who is quick to listen and slow to speak. i will care about the concerns of others and esteem them more highly than myself.

7. i will forgive those who have wronged me and reconcile with those i have wronged.

8. i will not tolerate evil influences even in the most justifiable form, in myself or my home, but will embrace and encourage a life of purity.

9. i will pursue justice, love mercy, and extend compassion toward others.

10. i will be faithful to my husband and honor him in my conduct and conversation in order to bring glory to the name of the lord. i will aspire to be a suitable partner for him to help him reach his god-given potential.

11. i will demonstrate to my children how to love god with all their hearts, minds, and strength, and will train them to respect authority and live responsibly.

12. i will cultivate a peaceful home where everyone can sense god’s presence not only through acts of love and service but also through the pleasant and grateful attitude with which i perform them.

13. i fully resolve to make today’s decisions with tomorrow’s impact in mind. i will consider my current choices in light of those who will come after me.

And here we are without gray hair and wrinkles! Take a good look because these resolutions are going to test us every day. Bring on the lovely aging process of raising a family!
