Do our hearts know something we don’t?//St. Augustine Photographer

Hi, I'm Sofia Bianco, a photographer and brand content creator based on the Amalfi Coast. So glad you're here.

One of my favorite praise-ers of Jesus is Brooke Fraser. Her songs are so poetic and true to the heart. They just make you realize things that you didn’t know you knew deep down in your soul. One of her songs is called “The Thief.” When I think about the lyrics in this song, it just reminds me of how Jesus steals my heart and I let him because I am just smitten with his romantic love toward me. My favorite lines in the song are:

It is as if I knew you before we spoke

Do our hearts know something we don’t?

You’re ruining me
With secrets and gestures and looks
With sonnets from second-hand books
Playing the chords in me nobody knew how to play

If anything could describe the romance I have with my rescuer—it is those lines! I used to think of middle-school crushes when I listened to the Backstreet Boys…now all I can think of is JESUS! I am just in love with him! (It is weird when they say “baby” in the songs, but I just change it to say “Jesus.”—in case you were wondering).

Being ruined sounds harsh and negative but isn’t that we need sometimes? (or all the time?) We need to be ruined and stripped down to the core to see life clearly. He whispers his secrets of redemption to us and uses his gestures of sunrises and blooming flowers to steal our hearts. He is playing the chords in me that nobody knows how to play.

The best thing I ever did was find my treasure in Jesus. When you make the love of Christ the most treasured thing in your life, it feels like discovering paradise and coming home all at once. I pray that you would find your hope, joy, peace, happiness in the everlasting love of Christ.
